When the Kimbrough twins were born, their mother was in a difficult situation, as she had little money and was very sickly. Lavenia was fortunate enough to be adopted by a rich family, who treated her with all the toys she wished for. Vannie had to stay with her mother, to care for her and provide the daily meal.
